Born in 1952 in Johannesburg, South Africa, Jill Kantor spent her early career in graphic design and advertising before moving to Miami with her family in 1987. She continued working in graphic design until 1994, when she shifted her focus to opening The Indaba Gallery in Hollywood, Florida—an interior design and African art gallery.
The Indaba Gallery showcased fine African artifacts alongside the works of contemporary African artists, ceramicists, jewelry designers, and sculptors. The gallery also managed interior design projects in Miami and El Salvador, while Jill designed and produced a range of home textiles and pewter cutlery under The Claire Kantor Collection.
In 2004, Jill sold the gallery to devote herself to her passion for painting and printmaking, later returning to ceramics in 2024. A multidisciplinary artist, Jill has studied printmaking, ceramics, stained glass, photography, and textile design. She holds a BFA from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. Her work is held in private collections across the USA, El Salvador, and South Africa. Jill maintains studios in Hollywood, FL, and the Berkshires, MA.
