Patricia Frik was born in England and came to the United States in the seventies, where she made her home in Brooklyn for thirty years. Exposure to classes in hand weaving at the Brooklyn Museum Art School led to a multi-faceted career as a hand weaver, including designing handwoven coat fabric and shawls for two of Isaac Mizrahi's runway fashion shows. Her original designs have also appeared in Handwoven, McCalls Creative Crafts and Needlework and Craft magazines.
Classes at Haystack School of Art under Pat Hickman and later Marion Bijleka in the 90's led a shift in focus to sculptural off loom pieces, incorporating materials such as wire, matchsticks, horsehair using textile techniques.
More recently, while dividing her time between upstate New York and Berkshire County, Massachusetts, she has been exploring paper collage with hand stitching and is particularly interested in the positive/negative interplay between shapes and edges.
She is a member of the Textile Study Group of New York.
Patricia is also the illustrator of the children's book Mr. Sixter Sockster Goes to the Laundromat.
