Shany Porras is a renowned abstract painter who skillfully translates music into captivating abstract artworks. As a resident of Stockbridge, MA, she works from her studio at the iconic Clock Tower in Pittsfield, MA. Lee Bank and private collectors have collected her art throughout the US and Canada. Her artwork has been selected for juried shows at the Connecticut Academy of Fine Art, National Association of Women Artists, and Conception Art Show in NYC where she won the Honorable Mention award.
Her primary medium is acrylic paint; she uses this with a mixture of other water-soluble media and found objects. Her specialization is abstract art, influenced by Gerhardt Richter, Julie Mehretu, Joan Mitchell, Anselm Kiefer, Mark Rothko, and Sterling Ruby.
Her musical influences stem from childhood study of classical flute and piano. She selects music from a variety of genres to translate visually. She recently created a series called "Abstract Harmony:Dissonance," where she translated music by Philip Glass, Max Richter, and Nils Frahm.
