Elizabeth Buttler arrived in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts 28 years ago, following a dynamic career in the commercial and entertainment animation industry. Originally from Portland, Oregon, her journey took her to Bristol, England, with many stops in between, as she worked on renowned projects such as Return to Oz, the California Raisins commercials for Will Vinton Studios, The Penny Cartoon for Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, The Adventures of Gumby, and Wallace and Gromit films for Aardman Animations. She also collaborated on numerous commercials and co-founded Sculptoons, a small animation studio in San Francisco, alongside animation director Tom Gasek.

After the birth of her son, Buttler transitioned into freelance work, embracing a diverse range of artistic media—including modeling clay, wire, acrylic paint, watercolor, pencil, scratchboard, fabric, and digital tools like Photoshop and Illustrator.

During the pandemic, she dedicated herself to painting, discovering that her background in animation heavily influenced her composition. Many of her works take on a sequential quality, resembling diptychs or triptychs, much like frames from a filmstrip. She was particularly drawn to acrylic paint, appreciating its ability to build transparent layers for a luminous effect without long drying times.

Today, Buttler showcases her original paintings and prints on her website, where she also accepts commissions for portraits of people, animals, places, and events. Examples of her commissioned work can be viewed here:
