ERIC REINEMANN

Art Mediums

Eric Reinemann was a finalist for the Gottlieb Foundation Prize, a recipient of the North Adams Project Award, and a guest speaker for SUNY Plattsburgh's Visual Artist Series. His studio is currently located in the Greylock Works East Studios in North Adams, MA. He is open by appointment and during open studios.

Reinemann's layered abstractions rely on the structure of the visual world, which he takes apart, interprets, and rebuilds to create unique representations of time and environment. His drawings are known for their distinctly responsive line, and his paintings are known for their shifting spaces and ethereal color density.

Born in Albany, NY, in 1978, Reinemann found his way into his career in art through landscape photography. He studied painting at SUNY Plattsburgh and went on to receive his MFA from the University of Oregon in 2003. Since then, he has actively shown at universities and galleries across the country, most recently at UNC Asheville, UMASS Amherst, and Coker University.

My process is a combination of observation and feeling. I imagine that when I am looking into a landscape or through a room, and I am seeing all these unique happenings and passageways, that all these clusters of information get sucked up into the space of the mind, floating around waiting to be repurposed. When it comes time to reflect and explore this moment, I use these buoyant memories to layer up a new version of that experience. Painting is no doubt a language for me. It is, therefore, a necessity, allowing me to investigate the world around me and make sense of my interaction within it.  - Eric Reinemann
