ARTIST STATEMENT
I feel that everything has dance within it. As both a photographer and a watercolorist, I have dedicated myself to exploring the movement and energy that underlies the physical, visual world. I use photographs to capture those things that may change in the next moment and use painting to make a longer study of them. The act of responding to what I see as I move through the world is a deeply kinesthetic and emotional experience.
I am drawn to light which falls upon objects, beings and scenes and to the light which illuminates them from within.
My range of visual interests is unlimited, but I find myself returning often to the beautiful forests and waterways that surround me in the Berkshires. I am equally taken by puddles, dancers, decaying buildings, industrial settings, closely knit neighborhoods, rocks, and people engaged in ordinary activities.
Through my artwork, I intend to share the deep communion that I experience. My hope is that my artwork will open others to the depth of seeing and feeling that has grown in me over these decades of responding to the visual world.
