Monica Miller Link (b.1955, American) arrived in Upstate New York in 1976. Her shows then included the Mountain Top and Catskill galleries in Greene County, and Hamm-Brickman, and Rice galleries in Albany. She was director of the Harmanus Bleecker Center of the Albany Institute of History and Art and produced exhibits for the Readings Against the End of the World. Her mid-life career was on staff for the New York State Assembly Committee on Health, while continuing a steady studio practice, kept private. Joyce Goldstein Gallery and Thompson Giroux Gallery, both in Chatham, showed smaller works. Now retired, she paints and gardens in Columbia County, New York.
“The two-foot square is a most empty space. In it I explore what happens with shapes and colors as day moves against night, and together they travel the seasons. My studio is in the woods, alongside a brook. Pattern builds, leaf upon stem, and then spins a new story to the ground or slips away as missive on the water. The gist is something about the sacred and the mundane. I don’t understand and so I open a new space to reenter, get lost in the woods, and find my way through again.”
